As you may know from my previous post about the Power Support iPad Film Screen Protector, I am a big fan of that product. I have one on my iPad and I am not about to remove it. So this review is not of the actual iLuv iPad Screen Protector, it is of that product’s little sibling, the iLuv Clear Scratch-proof Screen Protector Kit for iPhone 4.
“Why not get a Power Support screen film for the iPhone 4?” you may ask. Good question. They are not available yet, and I wanted to protect my iPhone 4 screen sooner rather than later. So, I picked up the iLuv screen protector on a recent trip to J&R – just to have something to cover the screen.
The iLuv Clear Scratch-proof Screen Protector Kit is inexpensive – Amazon has the iLuv for just $5.99 (I paid $9.99) and it comes with two films, a cleaning cloth and a squeegee. The glare-free version is $10.99 at Amazon.
The bottom line is that you get what you pay for. It is a decent product and does the job in a pinch (while waiting for the real deal), but it has one significant flaw, in my opinion: The iLuv product has poor adhesion around the edges. As you can see from the photos, the film around the home button and speaker/front-facing camera are lifted off of the screen. What is harder to see, because it is obscured by the iPhone 4 Bumper is that there is a similar problem around most of the outside edges of the screen.
Does my iPhone 4 experience with the iLuv product mean that you’ll have the same experience with the iLuv Protective Film for iPad? I don’t know. Perhaps you’ve tried it. Please let me know in the comments.
